ਅਸ਼ਰਫ਼ ਗਿੱਲ

Muhammad Ashraf Gill (April 1940-) is a poet of Urdu and Punjabi. He was born in a small village in the Gujranwala district of Pakistan. After passing fifth grade from the village school, he completed a Fazil-e-Farsi diploma from Islamia High School, Mitranwali, Sialkot district. He earned his BA from Punjab University, Lahore, and a degree in accounting from California. In 1982, he moved to the United States. Ashraf Gill has given voice to his own poetic compositions and ghazals with his music. His ghazals have also been sung by singers like Ghulam Ali. His Urdu poetry collections include ‘Wafa Kyun Nahi Milti,’ ‘Chalo Ek Saath Chalein,’ and ‘Wo Mila Ke Haath Juda Hua.’ His Punjabi ghazal collections are ‘Jeevan Rutt Kandiali’ (Shahmukhi), ‘Kurlandi Taan’ (Gurmukhi), and ‘Tolwe Bol’ (Gurmukhi). His Urdu ghazals are also published in ‘Sazo-Soz-e-Sukhan’ (Gurmukhi).
