Shah Hussain (1538-1599) was a Punjabi Sufi poet and saint. His father, Sheikh Usman, was a weaver. Born in Lahore (now in Pakistan), he was a contemporary of Akbar and Jahangir and had close ties with Guru Arjan Dev Ji and Chhaju Bhagat. He is considered a pioneer of the Punjabi Kafi genre. Many of his works reflect the daily life of weavers. His writings, known for their musical and simple style, were beloved by the people. His tomb is in Baghbanpura near Shalimar Gardens, where his annual Urs, known as ‘Mela Chiraghan,’ is celebrated.
